② Katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
Dried bonito flakes, which can be stored for a long time, have long been valued as a gift for celebratory occasions. In the samurai class during the Sengoku period, they always kept it on hand as emergency food, and before going into battle, they would write "Katsuo Bushi" (victorious warrior) on it and pray for good fortune in battle.
③ Long Noshi (decorative paper wrapping)
The name comes from the dried abalone. In ancient Japan, long noshi (decorative paper wrapping) was considered the most valuable and highest-ranking seafood item, and sending it as a gift was the ultimate expression of congratulations.
④ Dried squid
Because it can be preserved for a long time, it is considered a lucky charm for women, symbolizing the wish for the couple's marriage to last forever, and the character for "longevity" (寿) is used to represent "retaining" (留).
⑤ Obi-ryo (offering for the sash)
The engagement money is presented. As a symbol of the wedding attire, the envelope for the bride is labeled "obi-ryo" (money for the obi sash), and the envelope for the groom is labeled "hakama-ryo" (money for the hakama trousers).
⑥ Konbu (a type of kelp)
Kelp is a highly prolific seaweed. We pray for abundant offspring, good health, and prosperity for generations to come.
⑦ Tomoshiraga
The couple, bound by a strong bond and in harmony and love, express their wish for longevity, saying, "We will live together until our hair turns white."
⑧ Suehiro
We pray for the ever-expanding prosperity of your family's fortune. The symbols of purity, innocence, and a white fan represent a pure and innocent heart.
⑨ Yanagitaru
A willow barrel is a decorative barrel used to hold sake. It symbolizes the soft and supple leaves of a willow tree, representing a wish for harmony in the family.
